“Guy´s Eclectic Choice of The Week”: Fonderie 47 – Inversion Principle Tourbillon
Photographer Guy Lucas de Peslouan shares his images and thoughts on Fonderie 47’s Inversion Principle Tourbillon
A few thoughts by Guy:
This watch was created for Peter Thum, founder of Fonderie 47 brand.
With ten pieces, this watch was very exclusive. The 3 min tourbillon take place in the center of the dial. Hours reading is on a guichet and the minutes are presented in a retrograde indicator.
This watch was designed by Adrian Glessing and the watchmaker is David Candaux, from « La vallée de Joux ».
On the back side, the black disk is a part from an AK 47 (weapon), a weapon used in many military conflicts in the world. This watch was created to help and support Peter Thum to collect and destroy weapon in war countries, like in Africa.
Additional context by the eclecticum:
The Fonderie 47 is an interesting project: not only its charitable component, destroying those AK-47 assault rifles who have inflicted tremendous harm to millions of people and caused immeasurable grief, but also from its watchmaking content:
Central tourbillons are rare, and not easy to realise due on the position of the tourbillon. The technology is complex and the finishing top, but above all site the relatively slow turning tourbillon, offering a lot more sensual pleasures than a faster rotating one, matching the special purpose of the project with equally unique technical delicacies.
Shortly after, watchmaker David Canduax gained fame through is own projects under his own name.
Fonderie 47 has destroyed more than 70,000 weapons in African war zones.
