Snapshot(s) – ´Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin` from Vacheron Constantin
Some snapshots and brief impressions about the ´Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin` from Vacheron Constantin, a charming piece on the outside and a masterpiece on the inside
´Distinctive Overseas blue` is what they call it at Vacheron Constantin, the colour of the dial. It´s far from being shy together with the (all) pink gold case and bracelet.
The translucent blue lacquer brings (visual) depth to the ultra-thin case and that is an interesting contrast, which we like a lot. Let´s not forget about the complication shown, a perpetual calendar with classical layout and a moon phase indication. The latter is part of the charming face of the watch and the different finishing on the dial and sub dials fits perfectly.
A strong part to the all-over impression is the thickness of only 8.10 mm (even the simplest ´hours, minutes, seconds in center and with date` Overseas has a thickness of 11 mm at almost the same diameter) and a good one in our book.
Sidenote: of course, there is some competition and Audemars Piguet for example offers a Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar with 6.3mm thickness and their ´simple` one is 9.5 mm.
Movement – calibre 1120 QP is far from being new.
A good choice that represents the powerhouse of watchmaking very well, as it was – rightfully, we think, considered the ´12-cylinder engine of automatic movements`.
The rotor of the automatic movement fits the Overseas collection in general, but it´s kind of bulky compared to the traditional ultra-slim movement we see here, and it unfortunately covers its constructional beauty.
On the wrist:
On the bracelet it feels very comfortable and (still) solid. We didn´t try the straps (leather and rubber are part of the package) that are easy to change – without any tools – but have a soft spot for the rubber in case of changing. A diameter of 41.5 mm is appropriate for that kind of watch and most wrists.
Conclusion:
It´s a winner or at least a great addition to the current Overseas collection and we could imagine seeing another version with titanium case, together with the adorable dial and the lovely proportions. Also, a ´time only ultra-thin` version should be nice with that kind of dial … ?
