A few thoughts by Guy:

AXIOM is Phenomen’s iconic model and is part of a long-standing tradition of ‘‘driver’s watches’’ specifically made for car lovers. Through AXIOM’s original inclined time display, drivers are able to consult the time without having to take their eyes off the road, making it an ideal driving wristwatch.

With its pioneering watches Phenomen is exploring new frontiers and breaking the conventional mold with audacious French creativity.

Based in Besançon, the watch capital of France, the PHENOMEN brand is the proud result of historical French precision watchmaking.

Each Phenomen watch is 100% designed, fashioned and meticulously assembled in-house with technical expertise and attention.

Additional context by the eclecticum:

Phenomen – the founder (one out of two) and designer of the watch Alexandre Meyer, I met during Baselworld 2018. We had a nice chat and one could feel his passion for the project. If I remember correctly his background was industrial design and the automotive industry.

He presented the prototype to me and shared lots of details. One could feel that he was not a watchmaker but a creative by heart. It was refreshing to meet someone being different at the show.

As much as I liked the passion and the concept behind, the prototype didn´t convince me.

Something was missing (to me!) when I handled the watch, especially when I heard about the target price. It was not about the design in general and also the execution was fine. Still, it didn´t speak to me loudly and was maybe too close to already be known watches from other brands. I can´t imagine to see it on my wrist – with comfort and a smile on my face – when driving a nice car down the road. Maybe my wrist is too small … or my expectations too high.

Conclusion:

It´s always refreshing to see ´passionate newcomers` and their approaches of watchmaking in the industry. When looking at their latest collection (www.phenomen.fr) I see nothing less than eight different versions of the AXIOM and it seems they have found their niche. Best of luck to the young brand for a bright future and I am looking forward to seeing new models to join their collection.
